Ardence Select Architecture Scenarios:

• Most PC/multi-media systems require two operating systems – one to provide the Windows PC user experience and another for the “Media” part that requires specific codecs and applications to be available on demand – TV, IPTV, DVD etc. The primary OS delivers the expected user experience when the system is in “PC mode” and when the system is booted to “Media” mode, a second OS provides the media-related functions and applications. Ardence Select eliminates the need to have a “Media” mode OS by enabling pre-configured snapshots that allow the “PC mode” OS to provide media applications.
  
  
• Today, if a single-purpose device (e.g. a medical device) needs to be used in a slighty different configuration – different user interface and values – the user, or someone in IT, must reconfigure the system to the new interface, values and settings. With Ardence Select these different settings can be pre-configured and ready to run with a simple reboot.

Ardence Select ensures instantaneous device operability without consuming valuable battery power or requiring devices to be left in “sleep” modes. It bypasses the driver loads, OS boot, network configuration, and application loading by accessing a pre-configured environment – bringing a device to full operability in seconds. Ardence Select enables instant power off as well.

Corruption and Virus Recovery

Ardence Select systems are fully protected from operating system corruption by power loss or unintentional shutdown. Any problems the device encounters are fixed by simply powering it off and turning it back on – the system is immediately restored with no need for tech support or reinstallation.

Because Ardence Select systems utilize pre-configured, hardened environments, viruses and other malware cannot permanently install into the system. Malware is instantly purged by turning the devices off and back on. Ardence Select protects key partitions while leaving writeable partitions for saving data, including use with removable storage.
